Oriental Ceramic Society
The Oriental Ceramic Society (OCS) is the leading international membership society for the study and appreciation of Asian art, with a special focus on ceramics. It was founded in1921 in a London drawing room by twelve collectors and experts, and now has over 1000 members throughout the world. We are one of a number of societies around the world specialising in the appreciation of Asian art and we maintain a close relationship with similar organisations across the world.
The Society hosts lectures on the second Tuesday of the month between October and June, which cover all aspects of Asian art. Although the emphasis is on Chinese and Japanese ceramics, other themes such as jades, paintings, ceramics from other East and Southeast Asian regions and Middle Eastern art are also featured.
The lectures are held in London, mostly in the Society of Antiquaries of London Burlington House, Piccadilly. Evenings begin and end convivially with a glass of wine, providing a regular opportunity for members to meet one another and talk informally. Members of KVVAK are most welcome to attend the lectures should they find themselves in London at the same time. Prior registration is not necessary.
In addition to lectures, our members have the opportunity to participate in handling sessions of objects from museums, auction houses, and private collections, as well as joining tours and visits to public and private collections in the United Kingdom and overseas.
