Donation & Auction: The collection of Maten & Van der Veer
It is already the second time in a year that the Royal Society of Friends of Asian Art has been donated a group of artworks, which may be auctioned for charity.
This time, it is Erik Maten (1944) and his partner Hans van der Veer (1951) who are still donating their entire art collection selflessly to the KVVAK during their lifetime.
They have been members of the Society for many years, whose collection is housed at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam; masterpieces from it are exhibited in alternating arrangements in the Asian Pavilion of the Rijks, built especially for this highly regarded collection.
Maten (Indologist and lawyer) and Van der Veer (metallographer) primarily collected South and Southeast Asian sculptures, especially bronzes, supplemented by some tangkas and Japanese scroll paintings and prints. *
