
Family Day: Celebrating Indonesian Culture
The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia to the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Royal Asian Arts Society in the Netherlands are pleased to present a special cultural event for young audiences to experience Indonesian cultural heritage and engage with the collection of the Asian Pavilion at the Rijksmuseum.
The Family Day will take place on Saturday, 22 March, from 14:00 to 17:00 in the auditorium and the Asian Pavilion at the Rijksmuseum. It promises to be an exciting and fruitful afternoon!
The programme includes a traditional Indonesian dance performance, a cultural workshop in cooperation with Dwihumi and Madaloka Dance Groups, and a guided educational tour through the Asian Pavilion in collaboration with the Rijksmuseum Families Team. We will conclude with tea and refreshments.
Programme
- 13:45 – Registration (Rijksmuseum Auditorium Foyer)
- 14:00 – Opening remarks by His Excellency Mayerfas, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and Edwim Liem, Chairman of the Royal Asian Art Society in the Netherlands.
- Jathilan (Kuda Lumping) Dance – A traditional Javanese horse dance, part of the Reyog Ponorogo tradition.
- 14:15 Breakout Sessions, participants will be divided into two small groups, rotating between:
- An interactive guided tour of the Asian Pavilion, specially designed for young audiences
- Balinese Offerings Workshop (Canang & Banten) – A hands-on session creating traditional Balinese offerings with an explanation of their cultural significance.
- 16:00 – 16:30 – Interactive Dance Workshop (Kuda Lumping) Children and families are invited to learn and perform the Jathilan (Kuda Lumping) dance together.
- 16:30 – 17:00 – Tea and refreshments.
Registration
This event is open to children aged 6 to 12, accompanied by a parent or grandparent. Places are limited, and registration is required.
